THE INFP · AT WORK

You work for purpose or you work at half throttle: your engine is believing in what you do.

When the work connects with your values, you deliver with a devotion that surprises; when it doesn't, you check out inside even while complying outside. Harsh feedback and hollow tasks are your kryptonite.

What they bring at work

  • Authenticity: you bring a voice of your own, not an echo.
  • Care for detail in what matters to you, far above what's required.
  • Empathy for users, clients or colleagues that others see only as metrics.

What costs them (the part nobody prints)

  • Sustaining months of tasks that mean nothing to you.
  • Taking a dry correction without ruminating on it for days.
  • Selling yourself: asking for the raise, the visibility, the credit for what's yours.

What they need to perform

Aligned work or, at least, a corner of the work that is yours and meaningful — that plot sustains everything else.

Where it chafes

When something collides with your values you don't fight it: you disengage in silence and the performance gives you away. It helps to state the disagreement once, clearly and in writing: sometimes it changes things; it always unburdens you.

What these four letters don’t tell you. No ceilings here: no type is barred from any trade, and the lists of ‘ideal careers for your type’ promise what the evidence doesn't sustain. Traits predict styles and frictions — how you work, not how far you can go.
