A facet of Conscientiousness
Self-efficacy (competence) measures how much you trust your own capacity to handle life: the sense of being competent, prepared and able to achieve what you set out to do. It's your basic faith that you can handle whatever comes.
You trust your capacity and face challenges feeling up to them; that confidence drives you to try things. The cost: sometimes you overestimate what you can do and dive in without the preparation that was needed.
You're careful in assessing your strengths and don't assume you'll manage; that caution leads you to prepare more. The blind spot: sometimes doubt holds you back from challenges that were within reach.
Feeling capable doesn't guarantee you are and doubting doesn't mean you can't: high confidence drives but can blind, low confidence prepares but can paralyze. The key is that your perception matches your real capacity, not that it is high or low.
Where it shows. It shows before a new challenge, in whether you say 'I've got this' or 'I'm not sure I can', in how you face the unexpected, and in how much you trust your own judgment.
